Clockwork people and Oil-based brains

The human brain is a miraculous mystery. Packed beneath our skulls, the grey, gooey brains are out of sight and reach. This explains why we can’t itch them.

The way your brain is coded has a big effect on how you act as a person. (example: the way I’m programmed.) I’ve etched out an analogy that illustrates the two kinds of mindsets I most commonly run into.

The Clockwork People. These guys function like gears and prefer timed routines. They like things to be scheduled and pre-planned. On the road of life, they keep their focus on a detailed map. Like a Cuckoo Clock, they’ll squawk about the hour and stress out about deadlines. Usually people in charge of leading a group project have the clockwork personality. What people call them behind their backs: uptight, stressed out, control freak.

The Oil-based Brains. These guys are fluid like oil and go with the flow. Not as tightly scheduled, their motto is to leave elbow-room for unseen surprises. On the road of life, they’re looking at the horizon and wondering when the next suprise will pop up. Like a coat of paint, they fill in the cracks and gaps. During a group project they are behind-the-scenes, working as the handy, jack-of-all-trade guys.  What people call them behind their backs: unpredictable, no ambition, slow.

You’ll hear a lot of bickering between these two types, with clockwork people being called “pushy” and oil-based people being called “lazy”. But here’s the truth: they need each other to survive. As the Tin Man would testify, gears come to a hault without oil. And oil all by itself isn’t enough to drive the mechanics of life.

So, I found your blog and, oh hey! you have my blog linked to in your list of “friends”. I feel so special. And slightly horrible, because, I’m your friend and had never seen your blog before. My deepest and most sincerest apologies.

Your blog pretty much makes me happy. :)
